More about your class:

You will travel together through the city of Miami while discussing the issues of artistic, cultural, economic, and environmental sustainability. After, students will use Miami as a model and craft sustainability plans with their home cities in mind.

In the words of its mayor, Miami is a "young, diverse, multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-talented city.” But there is no better way to experience these words than to visit the jewel of the "Sunshine State” yourself!

Before your arrival, you will participate in two online orientations that will prepare you to understand how Miami’s unique mix of social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors make it such a special place within the United States.

Later in person, you will spend the weekend touring Miami’s diverse neighborhoods: glamorous Miami Beach, vibrant Little Havana, artsy Wynwood, historic Downtown, and modern Brickell.

Finally, inspired by your Miami visit, you will end the course by submitting a SMALL project that could have a BIG impact in your own community back home.

The goal of this course is to leave you with a new understanding of “sustainability”—or in simpler words, how to protect the past, the present, and the future of the places that we love.

Requirements:

Your course will consist of two live orientation sessions prior to your class meetings on the weekend with your teacher/other au pairs followed by two days out on foot with your teacher in Miami. Credit for J-1 visa students is 36 hours. Students earning J-1 visa credit must attend all sessions and complete all homework.

You will receive details on how to log in to orientation one day before the start of the course. Once class has concluded, you will have one week to submit your independent coursework and final assignment to your teacher. Students are required to be present during all class sessions. If you have any questions at this time, please email us at aupair@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Students who require their certificate sooner than outlined above should request their final assignment in advance by contacting BMCC at aupair@bmcc.cuny.edu. Please note that BMCC needs two days from the date a student submits their final assignment to issue an educational certificate.

If you have any questions at this time, please email us at aupair@bmcc.cuny.edu.
